No account, no analytics, no ads
Backroom has no sign-up, no servers and no tracking. What that gives you, what it costs you and what Apple still handles.
Backroom has no account, no analytics and no ads, and its own code makes no network requests other than opening privacy and terms links in your browser. We have no servers that hold your data, so there is nothing for us to lose or hand over. The cost: no cloud recovery if your phone goes and you have no backup.
Many privacy apps want your email first. Then they ask you to trust them with your photos.
What is missing on purpose
- No sign-up. Open the app, draw a pattern, write down your phrase.
- No analytics or crash reporting tools.
- No ads.
- No server for your files.
What you get
There is no account to breach and no email to tie you to a vault. A legal request to us has nothing to reach, since we do not hold your files, keys, pattern or phrase.
What Apple still does
Apple sells the app and handles purchases, under its own policy. iOS backs up the phone if you set that up, with your vault files in encrypted form.
What it costs you
Nothing happens on a server, so nothing is rescued from one. If you lose your phone with no backup, your vaults are lost. No web access exists, and no second device gets a copy. If that matters more to you than the rest, an end-to-end encrypted cloud may suit you better.
Frequently asked questions
How do you make money?
From the paid plan: $1.99 a week, $19.99 a year or $39.99 once. Apple handles the payment, and we get no card details.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Nothing about opening or adding to a vault needs a connection.
Can you see whether I use the app?
We collect no analytics. Apple gives developers its own sales and app reports, under Apple's privacy policy.
