Make a Wi-Fi QR code for guests
Create a Wi-Fi QR code in your browser so guests can join without typing, or use the one built into your iPhone. Your password stays on your device.
On iPhone, open the Passwords app, tap Wi-Fi, tap your network and tap Show Network QR Code. Or use our QR code generator, which runs in your browser. Anyone who scans the code gets your password, so use a guest network if your router has one.
On your iPhone
- Open the Passwords app.
- Tap Wi-Fi.
- Tap your network.
- Tap Show Network QR Code.
Guests scan it with the Camera in Photo mode, then tap the link that appears.
If they are in your contacts and nearby, your iPhone can also offer to share the password when they choose the network.
In a browser
The QR code generator makes a code you can print. It runs on your device, and the tools page blocks scripts from sending anything over the network.
Keep it tidy
Put guests on a separate network if your router allows it. Change the password when you stop trusting who has it, then replace the printed code.
Frequently asked questions
Does the code expire?
No. A Wi-Fi QR code holds your network name and password as text. It stops working when you change the password.
Can someone read the password from the code?
Yes. A scanner can show the contents. Treat a printed code like a written password.
