Locks when you leave
The vault locks when the app goes to the background and shows a blank screen when you flip between open apps, so nothing is on display.
When Backroom goes to the background, the vault locks and temporary files are cleared. When you flip between open apps, it shows a blank screen in place of your photos. You draw your pattern again to get back in. Backroom does not block screenshots or screen recording.
Taking a call and handing someone your phone a moment later should not leave a private photo on display.
What happens
- Flip between open apps: a blank cover replaces the screen, so the preview shows nothing.
- Leave the app or lock the phone: the vault locks. The next visit starts at the pattern screen, or at the calculator if you set that up.
- Temporary files: video playback and Save a copy files are removed on lock.
Why not a timer
A grace period is handy and it is also how a vault ends up open on a table. Leaving means locked.
What it leaves open
Backroom does not block screenshots or screen recording. A person could also photograph the screen. And inside the app, a person holding your open vault can see whatever is in it, so keep your hands on the phone. To lock it fast, flick out to the Home Screen.
Frequently asked questions
Does this also happen when I lock my phone?
Yes. Locking your iPhone sends the app to the background, so the vault locks.
Can I set a delay?
The app locks right away, with no grace period to set.
What about a long import?
Stay in the app while a large import runs. If it is interrupted, Backroom cleans up safely and your original stays put, so you can run it again.
