Calculator screen
On the paid plan, Backroom can open to a working calculator. Type your code and press equals to reach the pattern screen. Try a demo here.
Backroom can open as a working four-function calculator on the paid plan. Enter your code of 4 to 8 digits, press equals, and the pattern screen appears. The code is a disguise and encrypts nothing. Your pattern is still what protects your vault, and the name under the icon stays Backroom.
A demo of the idea
In this demo the code is 1234. Do some sums, then press C, type 1234 and press =. In the app you choose your own code of 4 to 8 digits.
Someone opening the app finds a calculator, and it does sums. That is all this feature is for.
How to set it up
- Open a vault and go to Settings.
- In the Disguise section, tap Calculator screen.
- Choose a code of 4 to 8 digits.
- Tap Turn on.
Backroom opens to the calculator the next time it locks. Pair it with the calculator icon so it looks right from the Home Screen.
What it does and does not do
It stops a quick glance. Someone who sees a working calculator may move on. It adds no protection to your files, since the pattern and the encryption do that job whether or not this is on.
The name under the icon stays Backroom, and iOS lists that name in Settings and App Library. If you use the app to fool someone determined, they can find out.

Frequently asked questions
Does it really calculate?
Yes. It adds, subtracts, multiplies, divides and handles percent and sign changes, and repeats the last operation when you press equals again.
What if someone types my code by accident?
They reach a pattern screen, which still needs your pattern. The code works only from a cleared state, with no operation pending.
Is the code encrypted?
No. It is stored as a plain app setting, which is why it is a disguise and not a lock.
